STARS, Ruth Jones

Ruth JonesRuth Jones is a Welsh actress and writer, best known for co-scripting and starring in the multi-award winning hit TV comedy Gavin and Stacey. She is also known for her comedy performances in Little Britain, Saxondale with Steve Coogan and cult hit Nighty Night.

Ruth Jones, born in Bridgend in 1966, is from Porthcawl in South Wales. After attending school there, she obtained a degree in drama and theatre studies from the University of Warwick, then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. Ruth first worked in TV and radio comedy for BBC Wales in 1991, both writing and performing in several radio series and TV comedy programmes. Theatre with the RSC and The National Theatre was followed by her performance in the hit British movie East is East. After this Jones appeared as Kelly in four series of ITV's comedy Fat Friends, as Myfanwy in BBC's Little Britain and as Linda in the BBC cult black comedy Nighty Night. Most recently, she has featured in the two BBC One period costume dramas Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Little Dorrit.

Ruth lives in Cardiff and has her own production company "Tidy Productions" (formerly Sutherland Productions). Tidy Productions recently landed its first commission and Ruth's own BBC Radio Wales chat show is called Ruth Jones Sunday Brunch, featuring a mixture of chat, celebrity guests, comedy and music.

Recognition & Awards
Jones was nominated for Best Female Comedy Newcomer and Best Television Comedy Actress at the 2007 British Comedy Awards, winning the former of the two nominations.
